Kelly and I tend to take the most out of our so-called "happy hours." We recently found this bar nearby Dupont, close to work, and have visited there enough to learn the bartender's name. (Florencia!)
Yesterday, we stopped by Brickskeller after work. Early-evening summer heat in D.C. is quite something, especially with the rush-hour traffic honking and fuming heat on Massachusetts Ave., and we figured a drink will not hurt too much.
We ended up drinking two 750ml bottles of beer. We justified that each person has to drink at least one. We were sufficiently buzzed after the first glass of the second bottle though.
This time, we started out with our favorite English Stout, "St. Peter's" (6.5 Abv).
We discovered this last week and enjoyed it immensely after finishing heavy and thick Unibroue's Terrible and 17th Anniversary Special. This 500ml bottle of beer is dark black with little lacing, has a sweet milk-coffee flavor, and goes down very lightly with clean aftertaste. It is very pleasant to drink by itself that you almost cannot feel any alcohol in it. Also, having no bitter-aftertaste is definitely a huge plus. I definitely love the bottle-design as well. I meant to keep the empty bottle, but forgot it.
Because our sweet-potato fries came out too late, we had to order another one. We were debating between something from Victory Brewery or Great Divide, until Florencia kindly suggested that she would go back and bring out some unlisted, new bottles for us to pick. Of course, she brought out the most excellent ones, and we were happy to choose this one:
Dogfish Head Brewery did it again. Sah'tea has a chi-tea flavor! It has a beautiful yellow-gold color with slightly cloudy body. It pours thicker than St. Peter's Stout but is still very quaffable. After taking a sip, I could feel chi-tea scent permeating in my mouth. It had a sharper and crispier taste than I expected, and chi-tea flavor and scent definitely mask alcohol very well. Because Kelly and I both like tea, we thought this was a very nice combination.
Both bottles were extremely good, though the check was definitely more than I expected. Still, we will probably stop by this place at least once very two weeks or so.
Next Beer: Ommegang BPA.
